David Songulashvili Meets IFAD Vice-President Donald Brown

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr David Songulashvili, met with Mr Donald Brown, Vice-President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

The parties focused on strengthening Georgia's longstanding cooperation with IFAD and identifying key areas for future partnership. They paid particular attention to sustainable pasture management, climate change adaptation, livestock development, and enhancing economic opportunities for rural communities.

“Georgia attaches particular importance to its partnership with IFAD, which has spanned nearly three decades. Our cooperation is instrumental in strengthening rural economies, creating new opportunities for farmers, and enhancing the resilience of the agricultural sector in the face of climate change.

Continued cooperation in sustainable pasture management is also crucial,” stated Mr David Songulashvili.

Georgia-IFAD cooperation began in 1997. Since then, IFAD has invested approximately USD 70 million in rural development in Georgia. The partnership covers a range of areas, including improving access to agricultural finance, infrastructure development, market access, strengthening value chains, land registration, and climate-smart agriculture.

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr Lasha Dolidze, and the Ambassador of Georgia to Italy, Ms Tamuna Liluashvili,  also attended the meeting.
