“On May 8, we celebrate National Wine Day in Georgia; I would be delighted to host everyone who loves and appreciates Georgian wine,” stated David Songulashvili during his remarks at the OIV conference in Verona

As part of his official visit to Italy, Minister Songulashvili participated in the conference of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine “Recognizing the Value of Global Vine and Wine Culture: International Perspectives.”

“The influence of wine culture can be found everywhere across Georgia in painting, poetry, cinema, song, and in moments of both joy and hardship. Moreover, in Georgia, wine is not merely a beverage; it is an integral part of our national identity, a way of life deeply embedded in the collective consciousness of our society,” Minister Songulashvili noted in his remarks.

The Minister also highlighted the remarkable diversity of grape varieties in Georgia, emphasizing that more than 500 varieties have been documented to date, representing a unique resource for both scientific research and the production of high-quality wines.

“The Georgian wine sector is a dynamically developing industry that successfully combines traditional methods with modern technologies. Particular emphasis is placed on quality control, production standardization, and export diversification. Today, Georgian wine is represented in numerous international markets and is steadily establishing itself as a high-quality, unique, and culturally distinctive product. While it can be tasted in many countries, one would agree that wine is especially enjoyed in its homeland. On May 8, we celebrate National Wine Day in Georgia, and I would be pleased to host all those who appreciate and value Georgian wine,” Mr. Songulashvili added.
