The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture discusses with representatives of the business sector the regulation of the sale of beverages packaged in plastic bottles.
A follow-up working meeting was held at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture with representatives of the business sector to discuss the regulation of the sale of beverages packaged in plastic bottles.
The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, along with Deputies of the Minister, Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, Mr. Zurab Ezugbaia, Mr. Kakha Kakabadze, Mr. Lasha Dolidze, and Mr. Lasha Avaliani, attended the meeting.
“The Ministry is actively working with representatives of the business sector to address issues related to reducing plastic waste pollution and improving waste management policies. It is important to develop an action plan through coordinated cooperation with the sector. Regulations must strike a balance between environmental, public health, and economic considerations,” stated Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili.
During the meeting, participants discussed a new initiative under which budgetary organizations, state institutions, and the hospitality sector will be restricted from purchasing beverages in plastic bottles. The initiative aims to reduce plastic consumption and encourage the use of alternative materials.
The parties agreed to continue working together with business sector representatives to finalize an implementation mechanism for restricting plastic bottle purchases and establish a timeline for next steps.
