The Migratory Bird Hunting Season Will Open on August 23, 2025


According to the decree issued by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia — “On the Approval of Rules for the Treatment of Wildlife Objects by Species, the Hunting Terms, and the List of Permitted Weapons and Devices/Equipment for Harvesting” — the hunting season will officially open on the fourth Saturday of August 2025, which falls on August 23.


Anyone wishing to hunt migratory birds may do so from the fourth Saturday of August until March 1 of the following year, after paying the state-imposed fee of GEL 10 for the removal of migratory birds from the environment.

 

The fee can be paid at any bank in Georgia.

It is important to note that hunting is prohibited in areas designated by Georgian legislation, including:

Within the administrative boundaries of Georgian cities;

In state nature reserves and national parks;

In the Samukhi Multiple-Use Area, named after Nugzar Zazanashvili;

Within a 500-meter radius around state nature reserves and a 250-meter radius around national parks.

On the territories of forest farms managed or utilized by the LEPL National Wildlife Agency under the Ministry.

Prospective hunters of migratory birds must also be aware that hunting is prohibited with any weapon not specified in Article 7 of the Law of Georgia “On Weapons”. Specifically, permitted weapons include:

Smoothbore hunting firearms (shotguns),

Rifled hunting firearms (carbines or rifles),

Combined hunting firearms (shotguns with both rifled and smooth barrels),

Hunting cold and cold projectile weapons,

Hunting pneumatic weapons.
