David Songulashvili Visits Greenhouse Farm Established with Government Support in the Shida Kartli region.
Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. David Songulashvili, visited a greenhouse farm in the village of Satemo, Gori Municipality, which was established with financial backing from the government.
Farmer Vano Aramiants developed the 750-square-meter greenhouse as part of the Rural Development Agency’s program “Georgian Vegetables from Greenhouses.” He expects to harvest around 50 tons of tomatoes. Under the program, the Rural Development Agency will fully subsidise the interest on a loan of GEL 100,000 for a period of 24 months. In addition, according to the program’s terms, the farmer will receive more than GEL 25,000 in supplementary funding from the Agency.
Mr. David Songulashvili also met with local farmers engaged in greenhouse vegetable production. The Minister listened to the farmers’ insights regarding their current needs and challenges. He emphasised the importance of state programs and highlighted that support for Georgian agricultural production remains a continuous priority.
Launched in 2024 by the Rural Development Agency, the program “Georgian Vegetables from Greenhouses” currently has 113 beneficiaries. To date, commercial banks have issued over GEL 20 million in loans for the establishment of greenhouse farms covering a total area of 23 hectares.
Under the program, the Rural Development Agency fully subsidises loan interest rates for a period of 24 months. Upon meeting specific program objectives, beneficiaries are also eligible to receive an additional grant, equivalent to 30% of the loan amount, as a reimbursement.
The Deputy Minister, Mr. Kaha Kakabadze, State Representative in the Shida Kartli Region, Mr. Simon Guleldani, Members of Parliament, as well as representatives from agencies within the Ministry’s system and local self-government bodies, accompanied the Minister.
