David Songulashvili: “Construction of the Environmental Supervision Department’s Office Will Begin in Gori by the End of the Year”

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. David Songulashvili, met with staff of the regional division of the Environmental Supervision Department in the Shida Kartli region.

During the meeting, the Minister was briefed on the division’s activities. It was noted that one of the most pressing challenges in the region remains illegal fishing. In response, the Department’s patrol units are enforcing strict 24-hour monitoring measures.

The conversation also addressed ongoing efforts to protect ambient air quality in Kaspi Municipality, where multiple types of industrial facilities are in operation.

Minister Songulashvili emphasized that the Environmental Supervision Department is a key regulatory body within the Ministry. As such, its institutional strengthening remains a priority and is actively underway.

“Shida Kartli is yet another region where the Environmental Supervision Department will have a new regional office. The land has already been selected, the project is complete, and construction will begin this year,” stated Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. David Songulashvili.

According to Mr. Levan Jgharkava, Head of the Environmental Supervision Department, the construction and strengthening of the new regional office is especially significant for the Shida Kartli division, as it was established as a separate unit only two years ago.

Until April 2023, the Shida Kartli and Mtskheta-Mtianeti divisions were part of a single territorial entity — the Eastern Regional Division.

During his visit to the Shida Kartli Regional Division of the Environmental Supervision Department, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr.  David Songulashvili, was accompanied by Deputy Minister, Mr. Kakha Kakabadze, State Representative in Shida Kartli, Mr. Simon Guleldani, Members of Parliament, as well as representatives of agencies under the Ministry and local self-government bodies.
