Representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (MEPA) held a series of working meetings with local residents in the Lentekhi and Tsageri municipalities of the Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region.
In Lentekhi Municipality, during a meeting with residents of the Sasashi community, participants discussed the potential of establishing protected areas in Kvemo Svaneti. Ministry officials presented the results of preliminary studies required for the creation of the Kvemo Svaneti National Park and introduced the different categories of protected areas under national legislation.
The meeting was attended by Deputy State Representative of Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region, Mr. Berdia Chankseliani, Mayor of Lentekhi, Mr. Gia Oniani, and environmental experts.
In Tsageri Municipality, Ministry representatives presented proposed territories designated for the creation of the Lechkhumi National Park and the Khvamli Managed Reserve during a meeting with local communities.
The meeting in Tsageri was attended by Deputy State Representative, Mr. Aluda Tutisani, Acting Mayor of Tsageri Municipality, Mr. Revaz Akhvlediani, and Chair of the Municipal Council, Mr. Chabuki Chabukiani.
The establishment of protected areas in the Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region aims to preserve biodiversity, create employment opportunities for local communities, and support the development of ecotourism based on the region's unique natural potential.
