Solomon Pavliashvili: “A key priority for the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture is diversifying the markets for Georgian wine and exploring alternative avenues.”
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, attended one of the most prestigious international exhibitions in the Republic of Korea - the Seoul Wine and Spirits Expo 2025.
Six Georgian wine companies participated in the exhibition, providing an excellent opportunity for Georgian producers to present their products to local wine professionals, importers, and media representatives.
Similar events serve as a crucial mechanism for increasing the export of Georgian wine and promoting it on international markets.
“Georgia is one of the oldest winemaking countries in the world, distinguished today by a modern and dynamic wine industry. One of the key priorities for the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture is the diversification of markets for Georgian wine and the exploration of alternative directions. In its efforts to expand activity in international markets and establish stable partnerships, the government consistently supports the private sector.
The main goal of our delegation’s visit to Seoul is to promote Georgian wine and alcoholic beverages on the Korean market and to raise their visibility and recognition,” said Mr. Pavliashvili.
Mr. Zurab Vacharadze, Deputy Chairman of the National Wine Agency, and Mr. Tarash Papaskua, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Korea, also attended the exhibition.
The Seoul International Wine & Spirits Expo is one of the most significant annual events in Asia’s wine and spirits industry, notable for its scale and importance.
According to Georgian wine producers, alongside China and Japan, South Korea represents one of the most promising markets for Georgian wine, with growing interest in both red and traditional Qvevri wines.
Georgian wine was first presented at the Seoul International Wine & Spirits Expo in 2015.
As part of the exhibition, a large-scale presentation of Georgian wine was held in Seoul, including a wine masterclass, a tasting session, and the Georgian Wine Festival, where participants paired Georgian wines with Korean cuisine.
During their visit to the Republic of Korea, members of the Georgian delegation held meetings with representatives of the winemaking industry and the commercial sector.
The discussions centered on opportunities to enhance the export potential of Georgian wine in the Korean market, as well as on initiating new joint projects to further develop bilateral trade relations.
According to 2024 data, approximately 72,500 liters of wine were exported to the Republic of Korea, representing a 26% increase compared to the same period in 2023. The growth trend has continued into 2025, with around 32,000 liters exported during the first five months of the year—an increase of 52% compared to the same period last year.
