David Songulashvili Discusses Strengthening Environmental Cooperation- Related Issues with Hungarian Counterpart.
During his official visit to Hungary, Georgian Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. David Songulashvili, met with the Hungarian Minister of Energy, Mr. Csaba Lantos, to discuss current and future cooperation between the two countries, with a special focus on deepening collaboration in environmental protection.
According to Mr. Songulashvili, Georgia and Hungary have a unique relationship, and Hungary is a reliable and steadfast partner of Georgia on the path of European integration.
Environmental Protection is one of the top priorities of the Georgian Government. We have increased budget allocations and strengthened institutional capacity, which has led to tangible results in aligning with international environmental standards and enhancing our legal framework.
Georgia is fulfilling its commitments under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the EU integration process. Significant achievements have already been made in expanding and enhancing early warning systems," Mr. Songulashvili said.
The Minister emphasized the importance of sharing Hungary’s experience in the water resources management systems, including adopting the circular economy principles, while also noting that this support is crucial for the practical application of European regulations.
The Parliament of Georgia adopted the Law on Water Resources Management in 2023. The Law is based on the principles of Integrated Water Resources Management and meets the requirements of the EU water legislation.
We strive to establish a robust water management system that ensures effective and sustainable use of water resources. Hungary’s experience will be valuable to us in the practical application of the EU Water Framework Directive and related policies," Mr. Songulashvili stated.
The Hungarian side expressed its readiness to deepen cooperation with Georgia across several areas, including institutional development, the introduction of modern technologies, the implementation of water resource management policies, investment attraction, and the advancement of production capabilities.
The First Deputy Minister, Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, the Deputy Minister, Mr. Lasha Dolidze, Georgia’s Ambassador to Hungary, Mrs. Tamar Liluashvili, and the Director of the Rural Development Agency, Mr. Giorgi Darchia, accompanied the Minister at the meeting.
